Entropy

Unlocking the Fibonacci Cryptex

BRIEF

This project was developed to introduce interpretation through abstraction by looking for sequences in everyday, seemingly boring objects. It also introduces the fundamentals of architectonics, including the relationships of lines planes and volumes to express concepts, ideas and forms. Finally, how this techtonic allows for unique shadow and light play that cast into the space and create unique moments in the space.

Entropy

The intensity of chaos represented by rhythm, is ordered by the idea of anchoring. Here, rhythm is interpreted as having regular elements, but it simultaneously entails variations as well.

This synthesis of regularity and variation in rhythm was further explored and interpreted into flowing rhythm and random rhythm.

RHYTHM Flowing rhythm represents a continuous and repeating pattern, such that it provides a sense of movement. The flow of rhythm is translated into the meandering line formed by the edges of the folded planes in the middle of the cryptex. This flowing line directs the eye, causing the viewer to continuously follow the line. Thus, this eye moment portrays a form of movement and flow.

Random rhythm means to be repeating without regularity. The repetitive pairs of parallel lines are arranged in a chaotic manner which thus portrays random rhythm.

ANCHOR Like how every chaos entails cosmos, the anchor sets and regulates the disorderliness in the rather chaotic rhythm. The anchor here is represented by the chain of diminishing folded planes. It serves as the core of the whole Cryptex, and the source of orderliness required. Consequently, entropy from rhythm is moderated by the anchor.
